RANDOLPH HAYES STAMBAUGH, son of CATHERINE ZIMMERMAN and JOSEPH H. STAMBAUGH, was born April 10, 1877 in Ashland, Nebraska, and died February 14, 1965 in Ashland, Saunders, Nebraska. He is buried in Ashland Cemetery, Saunders County, Nebraska.456

Ashland, Neb. (AP) — Randolph Stambaugh, about 88, the last member of the family which settled in Ashland more than a century ago, died Monday at the farm home about a mile north of Ashland where he lived alone.
Mr. Stambaugh was one of 10 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stambaugh, who came in 1856 and wintered in Oreapolis near Plattsmouth. In the spring of 1857 they established a home in the community that became Ashland.
Mr. Stambaugh never married.

The last child of the first settler in Saunders county died Sunday in the Wahoo hospital.
He was Randolph Stambaugh, 87, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stambaugh. The Stambaughs settled north of what is now Ashland in the spring of 1857, after spending a month at the spot in the previous fall, and were generally regarded as the first setters on the basis of their 1856 visit. THe Warbrittons and Aughes also came here in the spring of 1857. From this permanent settlement was dated Ashland's 1957 Centennial observance.
The Stambaughs had 10 children of whom Randolph (nicknamed "Rhiny") was the last survivor.
He was unmarried and lived on the old family property north of Ashland. He was born April 10, 1877. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Marcy Chapel.
