She married (1) JAMES M. BUTLER on November 9, 1881 in Ashland, Saunders, Nebraska,30 son of POLLY CHAPMAN and THOMAS C. BUTLER. He was born in Indiana.

She married (2) SILAS A. WELDON in June, 1898.7860 He was born December 7, 1856 in Cuba, Allegany, New York,7861 and died December 1, 1951 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska.7861 He is buried in Ashland Cemetery, Saunders County, Nebraska.456

MRS. SILAS WELDON FUNERAL ASHLAND

PIERCE, Neb., Sept. 8—(AP)—Mrs. Silas Weldon, 79, pioneer Saunders county resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chris Kirshman in Pierce. Funeral services were held at Ashland. She was the daughter of the first homesteader in Saunders county. She leaves three children, by a first marriage: Mrs. G. W. Weaver of Lincoln, Mrs. Kirshman at Pierce, and John W. Butler, Ashland, and also her second husband, a Saunders county farmer.

LAST RITES FOR PIONEER WOMAN HELD FRIDAY

Mrs. Silas R. Weldon Passed Away Sept. 6

Funeral services for Mrs. Silas R. Weldon were held Friday, Sept. 8, at 2 p. m. at the Marcy chapel, Rev. L. B. Stevenson, pastor of the Christian church, officiated at the service.

Mrs. Gladys Parks and daughter, Marjorie, sang two hymns, "The City Four Square" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Miss Rosemary Parks played the accompaniments. The pallbearers were Messrs. George Willis, Clyde Smith, William Beetison, Harvey Hoffman, Roll Weaver and Wallace McClelland.

Ella Romaine Stambaugh was born Nov. 25, 1860 at Ashland and passed away Sept. 6, 1939 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hazel Kirchman, Pierce, Nebr., aged 78 years, 9 months and 12 days. She was the daughter of Joseph and Kathryn Stambaugh, the first white settlers of Saunders county.

Of the family of ten children the surviving are: three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Doom, Mrs. Josephine Waybright and Mrs. Rose Stanley; and two brothers, L. G. and R. H. Stambaugh, all of whom live in Ashland.

On Nov. 9, 1881 she was married to James Butler. To this union four children were born. Mr. Butler and their daughter, Nellie, died in 1891. In June, 1893 she was married to Silas A. Welden. Survivors are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Grace Weaver of Lincoln and Mrs. Hazel Kirchman of Pierce; one son, John W. Butler of Ashland, and a step daughter, Mrs. Nora Houston of Montrose, Colo. Besides these there are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Welden was a member of the First Baptist church of Ashland. Her last illness continued for only a few weeks, the end coming suddenly. She was quite active up to the last.

Mrs. Welden was truly a pioneer. She remembered numerous incidents of the pioneer days and these she delighted to relate. She also took a very active interest in the events of the present. She had numerous friends with whom she kept closely in touch and whose friendship she greatly enjoyed. She was a lover of the beauties of nature, and delighted in her garden. She was especially fond of flowers, and loved to send bouquets to her friends. She was always deeply interested in the welfare of her family and her friends, sympathizing with them in their troubles and afflictions and always ready to do anything that she could to help them. While she did not possess a strong body, she was still able to do a great many things, her activities of mind and body being quite remarkable.

Silas A. Welden, Early Resident Dies Saturday

Silas A. Welden, the youngest son of Milo and Elizabeth Welden, was born at Cuba, New York, December 7, 1856 and passed away Saturday morning, December 1, 1951 at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 24 days.

At the age of eleven, he moved to Malvern, Ia., and twelve years later came to Ashland.

In 1898 he was united in marriage to Ella Butler and they lived for a few years near Yutan, Nebr., before returning to a farm southeast of Ashland. She preceded him in death September 6, 1939.

For several years, he had lived at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Amos Welden. Ten weeks ago he suffered a fractured hip from which he did not recover. His death occurred at Lincoln.

He is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Hazel Kirchman, Pierce, Nebr.; four nieces, Nelley Metheny, Lincoln; Mabel Milam, Clifton, Hill, Mo.; Ferne Mansfield, Ashland; two nephews, Walter Welden, El Centro, Calif., Oscar Welden, Seattle, Wash., and their sister, Daisy, of Idaho.

Silas Welden was a man of sterling character and his gently dignity won the respect of all who knew him.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 4, at the Marcy chapel. Rev. H. H. Utterback, pastor of the Ashland Christian church, officiated.

Mrs. Warren Robinson sang "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. Howard Anderson as the organist.

The pallbearers were: Wallace McClelland, Elmer Wild, William Beetison, John Laughlin, Aaron Bachman and C. J. Anderson.

Burial was made at the Ashland cemetery.
