In the death of L. G. Stambaugh, which occurred about 6 o'clock on Wednesday morning, one of the prominent and pioneer farmers and a native son of Ashland, has passed on to the Great Beyond.
Lorenzo G. Stambaugh was born Sept. 12, 1865, in a log cabin one mile north of Ashland and passed away at his home a mile and a half north of the city on Aug. 21, 1940, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 9 days. He spent his entire life in the North Ashland vicinity, with the exception of a year and a half which was spent on a farm near Brunswick. He was the third son of Joseph and Katherine Stambaugh, who were the first settlers of Saunders county.
Mr. Stambaugh was united in marriage to Miss Eva Nichols on July 2, 1888, at Lincoln. To this union were born nine children—four sons, Herbert, Donald and Victor of Ashland and Maynard of Lansing, Mich., and five daughters, Mrs. Wallace Fulton (Ivy) of Plainview, Mrs. Phil Parker (Edith) of Wilder, Ida., Mrs. Roy Ely (Lucile) of Missoula, Mont., Mrs. Russell King (Ferne) of Caldwell, Ida., and Mrs. Orville Cornell (Corliss) of Omaha, all of whom survive him, together with 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Waybright and Mrs. Rose Stanley and one brother, Randolph, all of Ashland, also survive, with a number of nieces and nephews. Two years ago, on July 2, Mr. and Mrs. Stambaugh celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, with all of their children present.
The funeral took place on Friday at 2:30 o'clock at the Marcy chapel and was conducted by Rev. T. Porter Bennett, minister of the Methodist church. He took for his text, Romans 8:38-39: "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Mrs. S. R. Parks and her niece, Miss Marylouise Peterson, sang "City Four Square" and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Mrs. Kenneth Marcy as accompanist. The pallbearers were Vern O. Clark, Gilbert Raasch, John Karloff, John L. Graham, Nels Vallier and Sam Rhoten. Burial was in the Ashland cemetery.
Mr. Stambaugh was a man who was well liked by all and made many friends during his long residence in this community and who will greatly miss him in the days to come.

The funeral service for Mrs. Esther Stambaugh, 78, was held Friday afternoon at the Marcy chapel, with Rev. H. H. Utterback of the Christian church in charge. Mrs. Stambaugh passed away Febr. 18. Mrs. S. R. Parks and Miss Barara Parks sang, accompanied by Mrs. Warren Robinson. The pallbearers were Charles Gade, Edward Moller, Ralph Dean, Omer Hatfield, Clifford Carey and Carl Panzer. Interment was in the Ashland cemetery.
Esther Evelyn Nichols was born in Fulton County, Illinois, Nov. 1, 1867 and died in Ashland, Nebraska, Feb. 18, 1945 at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 18 days.
When a child she came to Ashland with her parents and resided until her marriage in the house in which she passed away.
She was united in marriage to Lorenzo Stambaugh July 2, 1888 at Lincoln. To this union were born nine children: Four sons, Herbert and Donald of Ashland, Maynard of Trenton, New Jersey, and Victor who is in the armed forces in the Pacific; and five daughters, Mrs. Wallace Fulton (Ivy) of Norfolk, Mrs. Phil Parker (Edith) of Wilder, Idaho, Mrs. Roy Ely (Lucile) of Missoula, Montana, Mrs. Russell King (Fern) of Melba, Idaho and Mrs. Orville Cornell (Corliss) of Omaha, all of whom survived her. Two sisters, Mrs. C. B. Piersol and Mrs. Will Kephart, and two brothers, Jim Nichols of Ashland and Rolin Nichols of Boone, Colorado, also survive, with a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stambaugh resided on a farm north of Ashland until after the death of Mr. Stambaugh four years ago, when she moved to Ashland where she lived until her death.
She was a member of the Christian church and the American Legion Auxiliary and a charter member of the North Ashland Woman's's club.
