The moon hung like a giant lantern over the A. D. Stanley farm, one mile north and one mile east of Ashland, Neb.
It was an ideal night for the latest sidelight on the meat shortage.
Mr. Stanley told Tuesday what he found the next morning. In the pasture were the remains of one of his finest steers.
"It was a professional job and a neat one all right, " said Mr. Stanley. "They had cut off the head and left only the insides."
Mr. Stanley has no clue as to who is eating the beef he planned to fatten and send to market this fall.
