Neillsville Church Provides Setting for Wittren-Fees Rites

NEILLSVILLE—The Rev. Virgil Nulton read the single ring marriage ceremony for Lillian Wittren of Humbird and Charles Fees, Sr., of Alma Center, at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Dan Timerson of Neillsville, and the groom is the son of Howard Fees of Alma Center.

The bride wore a white and avocado green dacron street dress with white accessories for her wedding, and had a corsage of red roses.

The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Timerson, the bride's mother and father-in-law. Mrs. Timerson wore a gray dress with white accessories, and had a corsage of pink carnations. A wedding dance was held in the evening at the Humbird Town Hall.

After a short wedding trip to the Northern part of the state, the couple is living on the groom's farm north of Alma Center.

A shower was given for the bride by the Women's Society of Christian Service last Thursday.

Mrs. Charles Fees

HUMBIRD (Special) — Mrs. Charles Fees, 61, Humbird, died Wednesday at her home here.

Funeral services are pending at the Jensen Funeral Home, Hixton.

Mrs. Fees was born May 16, 1910, in Pipestone, Minn. Following her marriage to Charles Fees at Neillsville in 1955, she lived in Humbird.

Surviving are her husband, Charles; one daughter, Mrs. David Olson, Augusta; one son, Ralph Wittren, Olympia, Wash.; one brother, Edward Vinton, Eau Claire; two sisters, Mrs. Lee Terrell, Alma Center and Mrs. Phillip Desaviniers, Humbird, and 24 grandchildren.

Charles Fees

Charles W. Fees, 94, of Humbird, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 22, 1903, in Geddes, S.D. to parents Howard and Bertha (Seese) Fees. His father homesteaded near the Badlands in the year 1906.

Charles married Dorothea Adams in 1928, and they lived in South Dakota until December 1935, when they moved to the state of Washington. His wife preceded him in death in December 1939.

He moved to Wisconsin in April 1940, where he lived in the Neillsville area. In 1950 he moved to the Garden Valley area of Jackson County and farmed there until 1969. He married Lillian Wittren in 1955, and they moved to Humbird in 1969. She preceded him in death in 1971.

He enjoyed a full life of farming, and after his retirement he enjoyed many years of carpentry, dancing, reading Western novels and telling stories of his life to his grandchildren. He served on the Neillsville school board, and he delivered senior meals.

Besides his wives, his daughter, Myrtle Belle; two brothers, Burt and Clarence; three sisters, Myra Sargent, Ella Starks and Florence Parsons; and one stepdaughter, Doris Olson, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Charles Jr. (Wanda) of Olympia, Wash; two daughters, Vanna (Don) Hawley of Goodman and Jean (Dick) Walker of Humbird; one sister, Emma Larson of Neillsville; a special friend, Ann Sladek of Neillsville; one stepson, Ralph Wittren of Missouri; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.

Funeral services for Charles W. Fees will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, with the Rev. Don King officiating.

Burial will take place in Mentor Cemetery, Humbird.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
