JOHN RAY WICKS was born December 31, 1883 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin,¹⁰²²⁹ and died September 9, 1955 in Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma.¹⁰⁷⁰⁰ He is buried in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma.⁴⁵⁶

He married LAURA BELLE PURVIANCE on April 19, 1911 in Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma,⁶⁷³⁸ daughter of MARY ALMA DILLEY and JAMES A. PURVIANCE. She was born January 22, 1891,⁵⁶ and died October 28, 1975.^{56, 456} She is buried in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma.⁴⁵⁶

Death Takes J. R. Wicks; Rites Sunday

J. R. 'Ray' Wicks, 70, Guthrie resident since 1889, died Friday morning in the local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday in the First Presbyterian church with Rev. Benjamin Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Summit View cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Davis Funeral Home Chapel until 1 p. m. Sunday and the casket will not be opened at the funeral.

Wicks had operated automobile and tractor agencies and had also been in the recreation parlor business here for approximately 30 years. He retired the first of this year.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Wicks of the home address, 702 E. Noble; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Long and Mrs. Orville Brown, both of Guthrie; one brother, W. H. Wicks, Guthrie; one sister, Mrs. Clara Orner, Oklahoma City and three grandchildren.
