Mrs. Charles Barnes and Mrs. Melvin Gilbert of Dayton, Ohio, and Samuel Sponagle, of Springfield, O., who were called here by the death of their mother, Mrs. Nancy Sponagle Clark, returned to their homes Monday after spending a few days with their cousin, Mrs. Joseph Wisman, of Edinburg. Mrs. W. H. McLaughlin, of Dayton, and Mrs. Scott Bryan, of Woodstock, nieces of Mrs. Clark, were also guests of Mrs. Wisman.

PHILLIPSBURG, O., Sept. 10.—Charles Barnes, 81, died Sunday night following a brief illness. He was well known as a farmer and educator. he was the oldest of a family of nine children, eight of whom, one sister and seven brothers, are living.

TROY—Mrs. Ida Barnes, 78, widow of Charles Barnes, of rural route 3, Brookville, succumbed to pneumonia at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Seeker, 907 South Mulberry street. She had been in declining health the last two years and the last two weeks had been ill in the Seeker home, where she had come to pay a visit. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Clara Parks of Troy, Mrs. Minnie Haney of West Milton, Mrs. Nancy Peffley of rural route 3, Brookville, and Miss Katherine Barnes of Dayton; one son, Walter Barnes of Dayton; one sister, Mrs. Mary Kinsey of Clayton, and two brothers, George and Samuel Sponagle of Woodstock, Va. She was a member of the German Baptist church near Clayton. The body will be taken to her home and funeral services will be held there.
