Solomon Clarke a Confederate veteran died at his home near St. Luke, last Thursday aged 75 years. Mr. Clarke was a gallant Confederate soldier, and a kind and generous man.

Widow of Solomon Clarke Badly Burned When She Tried to Start Fire With Oil.

SON RUSHES TO HER SIDE

In Attempt to Extinguish Flames He was Badly Burned About Hands, Arms, and Face. Was 74 Years Old.

Woodstock, March 24.—Mrs. Nancy Sponagle Clark, widow of Solomon Clarke, while trying to kindle a fire with coal oil on Sunday evening, was so badly burned that she died at 2 o'clcok this morning. Her son, George Sponagle with whom she makes her home, was at the barn feeding stock when he heard her cries. Going at once to her assistance, he extinguished the flames and was seriously burned on the hands, arms and face, his hands suffering most. Mr. Sponagle lives near St. Luke.

Mrs. Clark was seventy-fours years old and is survived by three daughters and two sons, children of a former marriage: George Sponagle and Samuel Sponagle, of St. Luke; Mrs. Ida Bowers, Mrs. Mary McKinley and Mrs. Katie Gilbert, of Ohio.
