Children of MARY JANE MCCOLLISTER and DANIEL S. CRAWFORD:
Randolph Register, March 14, 19193367
This community was inexpressibly shocked on Monday morning to learn of the death of Mr. D. S. Crawford; although the people knew of his sickness for a few months past, there was little intimation of any immediate danger, and his death is felt to have removed one of the best citizens of the town.
In his death, the town loses one of its finest citizens, its best examples of a substantial christian gentleman, which it cannot soon forget. Of his life and influence it has many reasons to be proud, as it observes his long resident in the place, his quiet and unassuming manner, his devotion to the highest interests of life, his industry and skill in the pursuit of his daily tasks.
D. S. Crawford was born in Java, N. Y., on December 26th, 1847, being the youngest of thirteen children, only one of whom survive him, that one a brother now living in Florida. He was married on January 11th, 1868, to Miss Mary McCollister at Napoli, by the Rev J. F. Stocker, eventually removing to this vicinity and residing in our village more than 33 years. His is survived by his wife, one son, Clayton, now living in Pasadena, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Wm Gallagher of Randolph and Mrs. Harry Bates of Buffalo; and one grandchild, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gallagher.
About 40 years ago he united with the M. E. church under the ministry of the Rev. A. A. Horton, and for many of those years has been an influential and useful member of the officiary of that body. The funeral was held from the church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Herbert H. Clare, the I. O. O. F. conducting the service at the grave.
The pulpit platform was beautifully decorated with ferns and flowers and there was a large floral piece sent by the officials of the church, another from the I. O. O. F., and others from relatives and friends, showing the esteem n which Mr. Crawford was held by the very large company which attended the services.
The funeral discourse was based on the words "If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the death. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect, but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting these things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

Mary Jane Crawford, widow of the late Daniel S. Crawford, died at her home on East Randolph at an early hour this morning. Mrs. Crawford had been sick two weeks with some intestinal disorder. For several days her condition has been critical, and death was anticipated yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. Crawford was daughter of Leonard and Maria McCollister; she was born in the town of Napoli May 13, 1845, and during her entire life has resided in Napoli and East Randolph. Some 54 years ago she married the late Daniel S. Crawford and they lived in Napoli until they built a fine home at East Randolph and retired from the farm. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. J. H. Bates of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. William E. Gallagher of Randolph; a granddaughter, Miss Catherine Gallagher, and a sister, Mrs. Flora E. Kerr of Gowanda also survive.
Mrs. Crawford's life has been one of service to those about her; it has been stated that following her marriage she made a home and cared for her father and mother and a brother, and Mrs. Crawford's father and mother and his sister. This besides raising her family and deeply interesting herself in the work of bettering conditions about her community. For years she has been an active and staunch member of the Methodist church.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the late home; Rev. H. H. Clare will officiate.
