Miss Annie Sherwin went to Erwin Monday morning to begin her school two miles south of that place. Miss Sherwin is on of our most successful teachers and is always wanted for a second term.—Independent, De Smet, So. Dakota.

Miss Sherwin taught in our schools in the fall of '95.

OBITUARY—J. C. HOERNING.

John C. Hoerning was born near Cincinnati, Ind., Jan. 10, 1851 and grew to manhood there. He moved to Central Missouri where he was united in marriage to Mary Clark, of Bolivar, Mo. To their union were born Bessie, Mamie, Ed, Eva, and Alice Hoerning. Bessie now being Mrs. Ensminger of Moran. Miss Eva Hoerning lives in Web City.

After the death of his first wife, Mr. Hoerning was married to Miss Anna Sherwin, the wedding taking place at Springfield, Mo., Dec. 24, 1901. The family moved to Iola twelve years ago. Of the latter marriage, five children, Emma, John, Ralph, Mary and Ruth, were born.

For six years Mr. Hoerning was employed at the smelters leaving that work when his health failed six months ago. During the past six weeks, however, he seemed to be improving. He was doing chores around the home at 18 north Third street when fatally stricken at 9:30 Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Anna Hoerning passed away this morning at 9:00 o'clock at the family home 221 North Fourth street after a two weeks illness with smallpox. Burial will be made in Highland cemetery.
