Mr. Clay F. Houston, a life-long resident of this community passed away suddenly Saturday evening about 8 o'clock at his home south of Malta Bend. Although Mr. Houston had not been well for some time his death was unexpected and came as a shock to his family and relatives and many friends.

The funeral was held at the Malta Bend Methodist church Tuesday, May 13 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Mims Workman had charge of the services. The hymns, "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee" were sung by a quartet composed of Messrs. Elmer Hume, Harland Hoffman, Donnie Brownfield and Vernon Sievers. Mr. Robert Miller, church organist, accompanied the quartet. Mrs. Jessie Plattner and Mrs. A. N. Van Anglen had charge of the flowers. Messrs. Raymond and Fred Malter, Craven Fulton, Alva Newell, Lawrence McRoberts and Harry Wright, cousins of the deceased, served as pallbearers. Interment was at the Malta Bend cemetery.

Mr. Houston is survived by his widow, Mrs. Florence Houston, two daughters, Mrs. Charles Woods (Claybelle) of Eldorado, Kansas, and Mrs. Orla Marcusen (Dorothy Irene) of the community; two sisters, Mrs. Rice Gunn of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. M. F. Sewell of Kansas City; three grandchildren, Judy and Raymond Woods and Clay Houston Marcusen and by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A brother, Mr. J. Percy Houston preceded Mr. Clay in death in 1937.

Mr. Houston was not only a successful farmer and stockman, interested in his home and family and active in church and community affairs, but was also a kind and understanding friend to all who called upon him for help and advice. He will be sadly missed by this community.
