Three Weddings In One Town

MARSHALL, MO., MARCH 19—Malta Bend, this county, was last evening the scene of three marriages. Mr. Ward Heskett, a merchant of this city, and Miss Mollie Blosser; Mr. Joseph Blosser and Miss Rubie Sprague were married at the Christian church, while at the same hour at the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. C. Fulton, Mr. John L. Huston was married to Miss Nora Fulton. All the parties are highly connected and prominent.

MRS. JOHN HOUSTON

Dies at a Hospital in Independence After an Operation For Appendicitis

One of the happy homes of our county, is desolate and the family, and wide circle of relatives are grief stricken on account of the passing of Mrs. John Houston of Saline, near Malta Bends. She died Monday, May 29, at 10 p. m. at a hospital in Independence. She was in her usual good health until two weeks ago she was stricken with appendicitis and her condition was so grave she was hurried to Independence for an operation. She had been getting along nicely after the ordeal and it was thought her condition was encouraging, until Monday afternoon a decided change for the worse came, and she died at the time stated above. the husband who had been in Independence during the greater part of her illness, had gone home feeling that if she continued to improve she could leave the hospital in a few days. He was summoned as soon as she grew worse and when he reached the hospital and found her condition so serious other members of the family were sent for at once, and reached the bedside of the mother before the end. The children who survive are, Clay, Miss Irene, Percy and Miss Dorothy Houston, the latter would have graduated Wednesday at Central Female College. The deceased was Miss Nora Fulton, sister of Everette, Ernest, Charles and Ashton Fulton, all of the Malta Bend neighborhood. Her beautiful Christian life had been a blessing to her home, church and friends, and its influences for good will be far reaching. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon, and was attended by a large congregation of relatives, friends and neighbors and the wealth of beautiful flowers that covered the casket was a loving tribute to one who was loved and highly esteemed by all who knew her.

Among those who attended the funeral from Marshall were, Mr. and Mrs. Wright Lloyd, Miss Helen Duggins and J. Percy Rose who went in the Rose car, Mr. and Mrs. L. D, Murrell and daughters, Misses Sara and Cathrine Murrell. the sincerest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

A message received by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Calhoun tells of the death of Mr. John Houston of Malta Bend, Mo., on Saturday night. He was the father of Mrs. Rice Gunn, of Kansas City, and a brother of Mrs. A. M. Irvine, of 320 South Judson street, both of whom were called to his bedside last week. Mr. Houston's death was rather sudden, being the result of a carbuncle of the lip, which became infected about a week ago. He was a prominent farmer of Malta Bend, aged about 60 years. The funeral services were held this afternoon.

JOHN L. HOUSTON DIES AT MALTA BEND

Prominently Identified With Western Saline County, Succumbs to Blood Poison

At his country home near Malta Bend, John Lincoln Houston, aged 60 years, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, at 6 p. m., after a week's illness of blood poison, the result of a carbunkle, says the Democrat News.

The death of this splendid ad representative citizen of the county has not only brought sorrow and anguish to the immediate family, but a wide circle of friends are touched on account of the passing of Mr. Houston.

The deceased was born at Rushville, Ill., January 3, 60 years ago, and 43 years ago the late John F. Houston, father of the deceased, with his family, moved to Saline and settled in the Malta Bend neighborhood and have been prominently identified with the neighborhood and county since, socially, religiously and agricultural pursuits.

This death severs a partnership that has existed between the deceased and the two surviving brothers, Lawrence and Sherman Houston, for the past 35 years.

The sisters who survive are Mrs. Dan Dixler of Independence; Mrs. Arthur Irwine of Fort Scott and Mrs. James McClelland of Olathe, Kas.

The children who survive are Mrs. Irene Gunn of Kansas City; Clay, Percy and Miss Dorothy Houston of Saline.

The children and sisters, who live at a distance, have been at the bedside of the sick one for several days and were present at the end, except Sherman Houston, who with his family has been in Los Angeles several weeks. He started immediately after receiving the message of his brother's critical condition, but did not get here in time.
