Children of ZERVIAH FIELDS and JOHN HOUSTON:
Farmer's Cabinet, March 27, 18561504
In Denmark, Iowa on the 26th of Feb. of Neuralgia of the heart, Dea. John Houston, aged 69. The deceased was born at Lyndeborough, June 5th, 1787 and lived some forty-five years in his native town. Then went with his family to Lowell Mass. where he continued some eleven years. And in 1843 he came to Denmark, Iowa, with his family where he has since resided till death. The character of the deceased is well known in all the above named places to be such as to merit the entire confidence of his Christian friends. He early espoused the religion of Jesus and evidently grew in grace and in the knowledge of Gode while he lived. He sustained the office of Deacon of the Congregational church in his native town some eight years, and when at Lowell he was chosed to the same office, and on coming to Denmark he was again chosen. He has enjoyed uncommon good health for the most part through life. A few days previous to his death he complained about the region of the heart, but no serious difficulty was apprehended by himself or his friends. On the morning of the day on which he died he rode three miles and home again. He then went with his wife to make an evening visit about half a mile distant, and after supper he complained of the pain alluded to and leaned forward and seemed to make a noise like a person in sleep, but soon raised himself up leaned backwards and expired almost instantly without a groan, leaving an aged Widow to mourn the loss of a most affectionate and kind husband, and children to deeply feel the loss of the best of fathers, whose counsel and prayer will long be remembered.
The Farmers Cabinet, December 7, 1860
In Denmark, Iowa, Nov. 6th, Mrs. Zerviah F. Houston, formerly of this town, aged 76.
