ELWOOD — James Edward Howren, 81, died Oct. 26, 2007, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from Aug. 11, 1944, to July 19, 1946, with the 91st Division, 361st Regiment, M Company; combat Infantry Heavy Weapons — Northern Apennines, PO Valley, Italy.
He was an airplane mechanic for 56 years, serving Muncie, New Castle and mainly Elwood. He was honored by the FAA in January 2003 for his 54 years of service.
Survivors include a sister, Jean Ann Veach; brother, John Richard (wife: Virginia) Howren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson St., Elwood, officiated by the Rev. Chris Dare. Interment will follow at South Mound Cemetery, New Castle.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral hom
