Jean Ann Howren and William Lewis Veach

JEAN ANN HOWREN, daughter of ELLA MARIA WALLACE and FREDERICK LOWRY HOWREN, was born December 26, 1929 in New Castle, Henry, Indiana,⁴⁹¹⁷ and died April 9, 2020.¹²¹¹⁵

She married WILLIAM LEWIS VEACH on June 24, 1952 in Cook County, Illinois.²⁰⁸⁵ He was born November 22, 1925 in Prairieton, Vigo, Indiana,⁴⁹¹⁷ and died August 5, 1997.⁵⁶

Jean A. Veach, 90, of Terre Haute passed away early Thursday afternoon, April 9, 2020. She was born December 26, 1929 in New Castle, Indiana to Fred L. Howren and Ella Marie Wallace Howren. Her husband, Dr. William L. Veach, preceded her in death August 5, 1997 after 45 years of marriage.

Survivors include her six children, Cynthia McCrory (Walter), Melissa Long (Eric), Mark Veach (Christi), Sharon Veach (Lou Ann Stutler), Elizabeth Roundtree (Kevin) and Christopher Veach (Catherine); and her grandchildren, Eric J. Long (Morgan), Emily Sarro (Christopher), John Brycen Veach, Vivienne Veach and Graham, William and Grace Roundtree. Also surviving her great-grandchildren, Julia, Audrey and Andrew Long, and Beatrice Sarro; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Jean was a graduate of New Castle Sr. High School in 1947 and earned her RN degree from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. In 1952 Jean was married to Dr. William L. Veach in Chicago. They moved to Terre Haute in 1956 when Bill started his Urological Medical Practice.

Jean was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, past President of the Regional Hospital Guild, Vigo County Medical Auxiliary and P.E.O. Chapter BN. She was also active in Rose Ladies Aid Society, League of Terre Haute and Country Club of Terre Haute.

Private graveside services will be conducted in Highland Lawn Cemetery with The Reverend Drew Downs officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the William L. Veach, MD Scholarship Fund, c/o Indiana State University Foundation, 30 North 5th St., Terre Haute, IN 47807 or to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 215 North 7th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
