Gwendolyn Chilcote, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Chilcote of 1685 Mountain View avenue, became the bride of Herbert Hubbs of San Diego at a ceremony read July 15 at Las Vegas, Nev. They will reside in San Diego.
Announcement is made by Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Chilcote of 1685 Mountain View avenue of the marriage of their daughter, Gwendolyn, to Herbert Hubbs of San Diego, the ceremony having been read July 15 at the first Methodist church in Las Vegas, Nev.
They were accompanied to Las Vegas by the bridegroom's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Gaston, of Los Angeles, and by Lloyd Hume of Rialto.
The bride is a native daughter of San Bernardino, graduating with the class of 1939 from the senior high school. Mr. Hubbs is employed at the Consolidated Aircraft corporation plant in San Diego and the young couple will reside in that city, living at 1714 Front street.
Gwendolyn (Chilcote) Hubbs died quietly in her home the morning of January 7, 2011. She was in the loving care of her daughters, Joan Hubbs Keller, Lynda Hubbs Kuehn and her son-in-law Daniel Keller. She was 88 years old.
"Gwennie" was born on June 11, 1922 in San Bernardino to Logan and Lillie Chilcote. She was the youngest of six children who have all preceded her in death, most recently her beloved sister Lucile Hubbs.
Gwen lived throughout the San Bernardino area attended and graduated from San Bernardino High School with honors in 1938. On July 15, 1940 Gwen married her husband of nearly 60 years Herbert Hubbs. Herb passed away on May 17, 2000. Gwennie and Herb had three children, Joan Hubbs Keller, Lloyd Hubbs and Lynda Hubbs Kuehn, all still living, nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, scattered throughout California and the country. Gwen leaves behind her sister-in-law Ruby Hubbs Goss and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gwen was a past president of the PTA, a Certified Nursing Assistant who worked as an aid in a nursing home and she volunteered at the Rialto City Library.
Later in life Gwen and her daughters traveled throughout the US and Canada with a special trip to England on the Queen Elizabeth II. She particularly enjoyed the slot machines in Las Vegas.
Gwen will be remembered as a kind, loving, generous spirit who always thought of others first particularly her family. She never judged or thought ill of others and her warmth and quiet wisdom were apparent to all.
Gwen will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of Gwen's life was held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Montecito Valley View Chapel. Burial followed at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, California.10068
