Mr. and Mrs. Logan A. Chilcote of 627 Twentieth street are announcing the marriage of their eldest daughter, Miss Lucile, to Paul Hubbs of Colton, the wedding having been an event of last winter and kept secret by the young couple until last week. The nuptials occurred February 13 at Yuma, Arizona.
News of the marriage will be received with great interest by friends of the popular couple, whose romance is one of school days. They were accompanied to Yuma by Mr. and Mrs. Eulis Hubbs, relatives of the bridegroom.
Rumors of the marriage were confirmed Saturday evening, October 1, when approximately 40 guests, including school friends, business associates and relatives of the pair, were entertained at the home of Mr. Hubbs' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hubbs, in Colton. During the evening a formal announcement was made and best wishes bestowed by the company.
The attractive bride is a graduate of San Bernardino high school, while Mr. Hubbs completed his high school course in Colton. Both attended San Bernardino valley junior college, where their romance began.
Mr. and Mrs. Hubbs are at home to their friends in an apartment at 231 East E street, Colton. Mr. Hubbs is associated with his father in business.

Paul J. Hubbs, 77, of San Bernardino died July 11 of respiratory failure at Redlands Community Hospital.
Hubbs, a native of Neosho, Mo., lived in San Bernardino 13 years.
He owned Paul Hubbs Construction Co. for 51 years and owned several rock quarries specializing in flood control, dames and jetties. He was a platoon sergeant in the Pacific Theater in World War II and received the Purple Heart. He served on the board of directors of Associated General Contractors of California and the board of directors of the Bank of Redlands and was a member of The Beavers.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; two sons, Jay and John, both of Colton; three brothers, Jim and Don, both of Colton, and Orville of Newport Beach; two sisters, Mary Bailey of Orange County and Billy Martin of Palm Desert; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino. Interment will follow at Montecito Memorial Park, Waterman Avenue and Barton Road in Colton.

SAN BERNARDINO — LUCILE M. HUBBS Lucile M. Hubbs, age 90, passed away peacefully Monday at her San Bernardino home. Born in Bloomington in 1919, Lucile grew up in San Bernardino. She lived much of her adult life in Colton, before returning to San Bernardino in 1984. After graduating from San Bernardino High School, Lucile attended San Bernardino Valley College. It was there that she met her future husband, Paul Hubbs. On February 13, 1938 the couple took a trip to Yuma, AZ where they eloped. The newlyweds kept their union a secret until rumors of the marriage were confirmed in October of that year. They went on to have two sons, Jay and John. Lucile and Paul were married 59 years until Paul's death in 1997. After marrying, Lucile was a homemaker while her husband built the family business, Paul Hubbs Construction. During her years in Colton she was an active member of the Colton Woman's Club, where she served as a past president. She also volunteered at San Bernardino Community Hospital where she was a "Pink Lady". Lucile enjoyed golf tournaments which her husband often played in, including the Bob Hope Desert Classic. The couple spent free time with friends and family at their second home in San Clemente and visited their ranch in Missouri when they could. Lucile touched many lives with her kindness and generosity. Her family was blessed to have known her truly unconditional love. She will live on in the hearts of those she left behind. Preceded in death by her husband, Lucile also lost her youngest son, John in 2008. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Janice of Colton; daughter-in-law, Pat of Colton; grandchildren, Jeff and Jodi of Crestline, Paula Henson and Audra Knopp, both of Grand Terrace; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sister Gwenie, of Redlands; and her longtime companion, a parrot named Russell. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Mon., 3/1 at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton.
