STAYTON — Bertha L. Hughes, 85, 517 E. Marion St., died Wednesday at a Salem hospital.
Born in New Richland, Minn., she moved to Oregon in 1908 and lived in the Holley area before moving to Stayton in 1933. She attended Albany schools and Oregon Normal School at Monmouth. She taught school at Bridgeport and Sweet Home and was a member of Stayton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include husband, Ross; daughter, Helen Beirr and Ruby Stayton, both of Stayton, Margaret Todd, Sublimity; sons, Edward, Stayton and Calvin, Jefferson; brother, Claude Weed, Lebanon; sisters, Blanche Cairnes, Crawfordsville, Elsie Robnett and Vergie Rice, both of Sweet Home; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Jefferson Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Weddle Mortuary. The family suggests contributions to the Stayton United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

STAYTON — Edward Ross Hughes, 87, Stayton, died Friday.
Born in Salem, he came here in 1933 and worked at th Paris Woolen Mill here and in Brownsville for 20 years.
Survivors include his daughters, Helen Burr and Ruby Stayton, both of Stayton, Margaret Todd, Sublimity; and sons, Edward, Stayton, and Calvin, Jefferson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church. Private interment will be in Jefferson Cemetery, under the direction of Weddle mortuary.
The family suggests contributions to the church.
