SPRINGER FUNERAL HELD

Funeral services for Carl Springer, of Brownsville, were held in the Assembly of God at Brownsville, on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. V. D. Trimmer officiating. Mrs. V. D. Trimmer was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Barbara Cochell. Lovall Surgeon, Elias Bechtell, Karl Meir, Carl Johnson and Raymond Wimer were pall bearers. Mr. Springer had spent all of his life in Oregon, living in the Crawfordsville and Brownsville neighborhoods. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Carol Clark, Mrs. Robert Stott and Mrs. Nathan Calhoun of Corvallis; Mrs. Thomas Edmison, Hyla Sue and Carl C. Springer of Brownsville. A sister, Mrs. Claude Kay of Oregon City, also survives. Interment was in the Union cemetery at Crawfordsville, with the Fisher funeral home in charge.

Clara Springer

Clara M. Springer, a native Oregonian who farmed and raised cattle in southern Linn County, died Wednesday at her Philomath home.

Mrs. Springer, 93, of 1222 Applegate St., died of cystic fibrosis. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel, 815 N.W. Buchanan Ave. The Rev. Earl Hinkle of the First United Brethren In Christ Church in Philomath will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Corvallis.

Remembrances may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Springer was born to Joseph and Laura Blair Hughes on Aug. 28, 1891, in Salem. The family moved to the Marcola-Wendling area when she was a child, and to Crawfordsville when she was 16.

She married Carl Sprinter in Crawfordsville on June 18, 1912. The couple farmed in the Crawfordsville area until 1929, when they moved to Cortney Creek, near Brownsville. They farmed and raised cattle there until Mr. Springer died in March of 1943.

Mrs. Springer moved to Corvallis two years later. In 1955 she moved to Philomath.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener who grew roses, and skilled at sewing and needlework.

Survivors include five daughters, Carol Bartland, of Eugene, Bonnie Calhoun, of Arizona, and Clara Putney, Rosella Powell, and Hyla Carey, all of Philomath; a son, Carl of Junction City; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
