The barn of Mr. Reuben Maphis near St. Luke, was found to be on fire about 7 o'clock Monday evening and was soon totally destroyed. Fortunately the stock was gotten out safely but all the feed, such as hay, fodder &c., along with a buggy, spring wagon, harness, farming implements and other property were burned. The loss is estimated at about $900. Mr. Maphis is one of our good citizens, and much sympathy is felt for him in his heavy loss. The origin of the fire is a mystery as no one had been about the barn with a light or fire in any form as far as any one knows. We do not know whether Mr. Maphis had the property insured or not, but sincerly hope he may have taken that wise precaution.
