JOHN IVAN WINKLER

1916 - 2004

McLoud resident John Ivan Winkler, 88, died Tuesday, April 6, in McLoud.

He was born January 15, 1916, in McLoud to Thomas E. and Edna Chilcote Winkler.

He attended Meeker High School.

He was a carpenter.

On August 27, 1938, he married Dorothy Henderson. She preceded him in death in 1996.

On May 16, 1999, he married Mary Margaret Mitchell.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, McLoud Board of Education and Morning Star Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Winkler and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret Winkler, of McLoud; daughter, Sue Starkey of Del City; daughter and son-in-law, Sonja and Richard Starkey of McLoud; grandchildren, Chris Starkey of Del City; Joe and Debi Starkey of McLoud; Cari and Donald Cox of Porum; and Andy and Margaret Starkey of McLoud; nine great-grandchildren; stepchildren, David Winkler of Lansing, Michigan; Judy Silva of McLoud; Donnie Winkler of McLoud; and Beth and Martin Thomas of Emporia, Kansas; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ruth Mosier of Chickasha; Lora Mosier of Sperry; Valdora Mosier of McLoud; Dolores and Lyle Shingleton of Claremore; Verna and Charles Dykstra of Citrus Heights, California; and Geneva and Lloyd Johnson of Oklahoma City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Mary Winkler of McLoud; and W. T. "Dub" and Ruth Winkler of Midwest City; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Newalla First Baptist Church with the Rev. Griff Henderson officiating.

Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.

Mary Margaret Mitchell Winkler, age 83, of McLoud, OK, was born on July 22, 1923 in Lincoln County, OK. She was the daughter of Thomas Wesley & Nancy Elizabeth Gregg Mitchell. She left this life on December 6, 2006, in Midwest City, OK.

Mary Margaret grew up in the McLoud area and graduated from McLoud High School. She married Paul Thomas Winkler on October 13, 1941 in Chandler, OK. After his death, she married John Ivan Winkler on May 16, 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McLoud, the County Extension Club and was a Friend of the Library. Mary Margaret was a homemaker, a seamstress in and around McLoud and volunteered at the school. She enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and 2 brothers, Hudon and Rex.

Survivors include 2 sons, David Paul Winkler of Lansing, Michigan Don Harold Winkler of McLoud, OK; 2 daughters & 1 son-in-law, Judith Ann Silva of Shawnee, OK, Mary Elizabeth & Martin Thomas of Emporia, Kansas; 2 brothers, Bill Mitchell of Tecumseh, OK, Thomas Mitchell of Prescott, AZ; 9 grandchildren, Robert Paul Winkler, David Winkler, William Winkler, Stacy Winkler, Holly Gandy, Julie Jessen, Gregg Alan Winkler, Corbett Watts and Lloyd Mitchell Watts; numerous great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 9, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church, McLoud OK, with Rev. Ruth Tipps officiating. Interment will follow at Forrest Cemetery, Meeker, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.10072
