Children of JANE MARIA WAKEFIELD and JOHN PATTERSON REID:
Muncie Daily Times, December 19, 18836955
On Monday afternoon was born to her last resting place in Beech Grove Cemetery, from her late home on Wysor street, Mrs. Jane M. Reid, wife of John P. Reid.
For more than eighteen months she had been a constant sufferer from a heart trouble that, from its first appearance, never abated, but advanced with steady strides, robbing her one by one of the faculties that make life enjoyable, until at last, some seven weeks since, she sank upon her sick-bed, and most patiently did she await the summons that should call her home.
During her long and painful illness numerous friends lent willing hands and administered such comforts as could be offered, but all their efforts and kindly wishes and attentions were powerless to stay the advancing steps of the fell destroyer. Day and night throughout her suffering, the keenest interest was manifest in the affairs about her; kindly inquiries were always made after the welfare of her frequent visitors, and her constant prayer was for patience to sustain her in her affliction. Nor was there room left to doubt but that her prayer was answered, for with the calmest patience did she wait until on Sunday morning, at two o'clock and 45 minutes death came to her relief.
Jane M. Wakefield was born at New Haven, Ohio, April 9, 1826, and at the time of her death was 57 years, 8 months and 8 days of age.
On May 9, 1844, at Fort Wayne, Ind., she was married to John P. Reid.
She united with the Presbyterian Church at Richmond in 1840, and in 1863 moved her church membership to Muncie. Her church relations were always dear to her, and very rarely indeed was she absent from her place in the church or the prayer meeting. Her's was indeed a Christian life. The verdict of all her acquaintances is "she was a good woman." As a friend she will be sadly missed, as a mother her place can never be filled, and while years widen the distance between "now, and then," her name and memory will ever remain green in the hearts of those left behind.

As was noted in this paper Sunday, morning, after a few days' illness, at his rooms in the Opera House Block, John R. Reid passed away Saturday evening at 5 o'clock. By his death Muncie loses one of her oldest and most respected citizens.
In 1863 Mr. Reid moved here with his family from Richmond, Ind., and engaged in blacksmithing and plowmaking, being in the latter trade an expert. With the exception of three years spent in Ft. Wayne he remained in the same business until his sight became impaired to such an extent that he was compelled to retire from active life, since which time he has made his home with his son, W. S. Reid, who faithfully administered to his every want.
Had he lived until April, Mr. Reid would have been 80 years old.
He was the father of seven children, four of whom are living—Will S. Reid, Mrs. Mary McCune, of Petoskey, Mich.; Mrs. Lottie Bowers, of Tabor, Ind., and Mrs. Robert W. Monroe.
The funeral services will take place Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his rooms.
