Cayuga Herald, March 1, 191813020
Dr. Geo. T. Richardson passed away at his farm home west of Cayuga in Illinois, just across the state line, Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, February 27, 1918, at the advanced age of 92 years, one month and five days. He was born in the state of New Hampshire, January 22, 1826. He was twice married and is survived by his wife and six children. THe sons are Charles and Frank Richardson, well-known business men of Cayuga, and William at home. The daughters are Mrs. Maude McKee of Cayuga, Mrs. W. H. Scott, residing on a farm in the neighborhood of the parental home and an unmarried daughter at home.
The doctor had been failing in health for several years past, but kept up well for one of his age. For several months past, however, his decline was so rapid that the end came not as a surprise to his family and near friends.
In the death of Dr. Richardson, a character of more than ordinary note has passed to the Great Beyond. Not only was he remarkable for physical vitality, but for a wonderful clearness of mind which enabled his long career of usefulness to be counted as the number of years of his earthly existence. He was a refined gentleman, a great scholar, and his profound knowledge of history and biblical lore was a great source of pleasure to him when other things failed, and he enjoyed the opportunity of passing to others the benefits of his own learning and scholarly attainments. He had been a writer for years on his favorite subjects, mostly biblical and pertaining to life in the hereafter. Many of his articles have been published in this paper for twenty years back, under the heading, "The Shoulder Knot." His writings attracted much attention from all people of literary taste and studious habits. He was indeed a grand old man. He was a doctor of medicine by profession and a graduate of several schools of prominence in this country. His decline and demise comes as a distinct loss to a community that reaches far beyond the precincts of his own little home on the farm.
The funeral was held at the McKendree chapel this Friday at 11 o'clock, a. m., the services being conducted by G. L. Watson. Interment was made in the McKendree churchyard cemetery.
