Children of CAROLINE LITTLE BUTLER and HENRY EVARTS SHEDD:
The News, June 21, 18894571
In Zumbrota June 16, 1889, Mrs. Caroline L. Shedd, aged 60 years, seven months and eight days.
Mrs. Shedd was born in Campton, N. H., Nov. 8, 1828. She was the wife of Henry E. Shedd, who died Feb. 2, 1885. They were married Aug 3, 1852. They were among our very earliest settlers, Mr. Shedd and a brother having come here in autumn of 1856 and were joined in the spring of 1857 by Mrs. Shedd and two children. She came with Rev. Charles Shedd and family. Their home was on section 24 in Minneola, on a farm now owned by H. H. Palmer. Afterwards on another portion of the same section was the homestead, where they resided till Mr. Shedd's death. Here they reared an interesting family of five sons and three daughters. All have survived the parents but George, who died May 4, 1881, aged 18 years.
Since Mr. Shedd's death Mrs. Shedd has resided in this village. The 22d of last December she was prostrated with disease of the liver and after so long and a very painful illness, she has at length found release. All that the loving attention of her children could do, was done to restore health but the efforts were only to smoothen the pathway to the grave.
Mrs. Shedd early in life became a Christian, uniting with the Congregational church, of which she and her husband were members till their deaths. In their pleasant home she was a loving and helpful wife and a devoted and affectionate mother. She delighted in good deeds. She felt her husband's death very much and doubtless the sadness of her bereavement hastened the terminus of her own life.
One by one the old settlers of Zumbrota are passing away. A few more years and they will all have gone to the other side.
