Bette Barbara Buxton Bride Of Herbert Glenn Sherwin

Lovely flowers of the springtime were banked at the altar of the First Congregational church for the beautiful wedding of Bette Barbara Buxton of San Bernardino and Herbert Glenn Sherwin of Burbank, whose vows were sealed in an impressive single ring ceremony at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 20. The service was conducted by the Rev. Arnold A. Brown, Congregational minister.

The glow from white tapers, arranged in cathedral candelabra, cast soft shadows over the four baskets of blossoms and greenery which formed the bridal setting. Pews were linked with loops of white satin ribbons, with bouquets of flowers and candles alternating along the white-carpeted center aisle.

PRECEDED BY MUSIC

preceding the wedding, for which Seward H. Brush played the organ music, Miss Berna Whitehead, a close friend of the bride, sang "Because." One hundred and fifty guests witnessed the nuptials.

The bride was given in marriage by her stepfather, Dr. Edward J. Atkinson. She made a charming picture in her formal wedding gown of white satin, made in princess style with floor-length skirt, worm with satin mitts and Juliet cap of seed pearls, to which the hip-length veil was attached. She carried gardenias and white orchids.

She had only one attendant, her sister-in-law, Mrs. William Buxton, who acted as matron of honor. She was attired in a gown floor-length of ice blue satin, worn with matching slippers and Juliet cap, and carried a bouquet of pink tulips. Dean Sherwin, brother of the bridegroom, stood with him as best man, and the ushers included the bride's brother, William Buxton; Warren Ramsey and Kenneth Bailey.

RECEPTION AT HOME

Following the wedding, the couple was greeted at a reception, held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Atkinson, 3323 D street, where the bride's mother greeted the guests in a gown of powder blue crepe, complemented with a corsage of deep purple orchids. Mr. and Mrs. Sherwin left immediately for Palm Springs, and will reside in Ontario.

Mrs. Sherwin is a graduate of San Bernardino High school and the college of dentistry at the University of Southern California, where she was affiliated with Alpha Kappa Gamma, honorary society for dental hygienists, serving as president during her senior year. She is associated with Dr. Atkinson.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Sherwin of Elk City, Okla., and is a graduate of Phillips university at Enid. He is employed by the board of education in Los Angeles as maintenance supervisor.
