Smith-Irvine

The marriage of Miss Ethel T. Irvine and Mr. Jiles Smith, son of the late Robert Smith, of Fairville, was solemnized Wednesday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Irvine, on South Jefferson avenue. At 2:30 the bridal party entered the parlor, the bride attended by her sister, Miss Elizabeth Irvine, sister of the bride, as maid of honor and Mr. Smith accompanied by Mr. J. M. Talbott, of Fairville, as best man, where they were met by the officiating minister, Rev. J. W. Howell.

The bride, a very beautiful and accomplished lady of sweet disposition, wore a handsome costume of green whipcord, enhanced with trimmings of white broadcloth and white chiffon, with hat and gloves ensuite; carried white roses.

Miss Irvine's gown was of navy blue cloth, with dainty decorations of white taffeta and blue velvet, with hat and gloves to match; carried pink roses.

Flowers and potted plants were most artistically arranged in the parlor and dining room, were after congratulations a delicious luncheon was carefully served.

Later in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Smith, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Irvine, Miss Irvine and Jack Talbott, drove to the comfortable home, which Mr. Smith had prepared for his bride near Fairville, where an elegant reception was tendered them. The receiving party was composed of the following: Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Long, of Slater, P. A. Skelton and wife.

Among the guests present and from a distance were: Mrs. Andrew Tucker, Lincoln, Nebraska; C. S. Lewis and niece, Miss Gabrella Lewis, Waverly; Owen Peck, Miami; Miss Lyda Rucker, Blackwater and Miss Nell Dyer, of Saline neighborhood. The best wishes of a host of friends go with this popular young couple to their new home.

Giles H. Smith, a former resident of Saline County and a brother of Mrs. George Long of Slater, passed away Tuesday at San Diego, California after an illness of several years. In addition to the sister he is survived by his wife and two sons and one brother, Owen Smith of Lexington, Okla. He was born and raised on the old Smith farm home near Miami and for a time operated a store at Norton before leaving for the west.
