Stambaugh—Ely

At noon on Thursday, August 26th Mr. Roy Ely, of the Sioux County High School, and Miss Lucile Stambaugh of Ashland, Nebraska, were married at the home of Mr. Ely's sister, Mrs. J. P. Kirkman, at Lincoln, Nebraska. They left Lincoln that evening for the home of his parents at Nelson, where they visited until Sunday, when they went to Mitchell, Nebraska, for a short visit with friends.

Mr. Ely came to Harrison Wednesday of last week to begin his duties in the school, and Mrs. Ely arrived last Tuesday, and has also been engaged to teach in the High School this year.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Stambaugh of Ashland, Nebraska, is a graduate of the Peru Normal, and taught for some time in the schools of Lincoln, but for the past year and a half has been working the war department at Washington, D. C.

Mr. Ely came to Harrison in the fall of 1915 and has been with us about all this time except for the two years that he was in the naval service.

Roy Ely, 66, University Faculty Member, Dies

MISSOULA (AP) — Roy J. W. Ely, 66, chairman of the Department of Economics at Montana State University, died Sunday morning at a Missoula hospital of a heart ailment.

He was born Dec. 6, 1892, at Oak, Neb. He received his Ph. D. from the University of Nebraska and came to MSU in 1939. He had served as chairman of the Department of Economics for the past 15 years.

Ely was married to Lucile Stambaugh at Lincoln, Neb., Aug. 26, 1920. During World War I he served in the Navy.

Surviving are his widow; a son, Richard W., Missoula; a daughter, Mrs. James E. Hannigan, Marietta, Ga., two grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Hugh Herbert officiating. Burial will be in the Missoula cemetery.

Lucile S. Ely

Lucile S. Ely, 90, of Missoula died of natural causes Wednesday in a local hospital.

She was born Aug. 22, 1894, in Ashland, Neb., to Lorenzo and Eva Stambaugh. She grew up and attended school in Nebraska, and graduated from Peru State Normal School.

She married Roy J.W. Ely on Aug. 26, 1920, in Lincoln, Neb. She and her husband taught school in Lincoln until moving to Missoula in 1939. Mr. Ely continued his teaching career at the University of Montana until his death in 1959.

Mrs. Ely was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a past Worthy Matron of Electa Chapter 7 Order of Easter Star and a past Worthy Grand Matron of Grand Chapter of Order of Eastern Star for the state of Montana.

Survivors include her son, Richard W. Ely, Victoria, British Columbia; a daughter, Harriett Peggy Hannigan, Dickinson, Texas; a brother, Victor V. Stambaugh, Windsor, Calif.; a sister, Corliss Cornell, Omaha, Neb.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church under the direction of Squire Simmons & Carr Funeral Home. The Rev. Hugh Herbert will officiate, and Easter Star services will be conducted by officers of Electa Chapter 7 OES. Cremation will precede the services.

The family suggest memorials to First United Methodist Church, 300 E. Main St., Missoula, or to the Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leadership Fund, c/o Pat Swanson, 138 Sentinel St., Missoula 59801.
