ANOTHER ASHLAND BOY MAKES GOOD

Maynard Stambaugh, After Graduation from Cornell is Given Fine Position at Springfield, Illinois

The Gazette is pleased to note the fine progress of a former Ashland boy, Maynard, the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Stambaugh. After graduation from the Ashland school, class of 1915, he went to Valparaiso, Ind. and took a four years' course in civil engineering, finishing the course in three and a half years. He spent last year as a civil engineer in the state department at Lincoln, going from there in September to Cornell from which university he graduated this year on June 18. He has secured a fine position in the state civil engineering department at Springfield, Ill. While in school at Valparaiso, he married Miss Iva Putney, of Shelby, Mich., who was also a student at the college. Mr. Stambaugh has many friends in Ashland and vicinity who will be pleased to learn of his success in his chosen line of work, and congratulate him on his progress.

Maynard Stambaugh, 66, Dies on a Trip

Maynard Stambaugh, 66, of Whitehall, Mich., died at Gainesville, Tex., on Thursday, March 14, while returning with his wife from a winter vacation in Arizona and southern California.

Funeral services were held at the Marcy Chapel in Ashland Monday afternoon, March 18, with the Rev. Donald Webster of the Ashland Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Warren Robinson played organ selections. The pallbearers were R. H. Barta, Harold Richards, Joe Mitchell, Forrest Raikes, Sam Rhotten, and Elmer Hall. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery.

Maynard Stambaugh was born in Ashland Sept. 5, 1896, the son of Lorenzo and Eva Stambaugh. He attended schools in Ashland. Then he graduated in engineering from Valparaiso University at Valparaiso, Ind., and took advanced study at Cornell University. His specialty was bridges, and many of these structures in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana are of his design. He was connected with the Michigan Highway Department for many years, and later with the Foster Engineering Co. During the later years of his life, he had his own consulting engineering company. He was a member of Michigan Professional Engineers and the Michigan Association of the Professions.

The Stambaughs, returning from their winter vacation had made a stop at Houston, Tex., to visit Mr. Stambaugh's niece and to pick up his sister who was to accompany them to Omaha to visit another sister.

Mr. Stambaugh is survived by his wife, Iva; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Ely of Missoula, Mont., and Mrs. Orville Cornell of Omaha; and one brother, Victor Stambaugh of Stanford Sierra Camp, Fallen Leaf, Calif.
