LANDLADY DIES AFTER STROKE; BODY IS FOUND

Mrs. Maude Stanley Succumbs While Cleaning; Funeral Service Tomorrow

Mrs. Maude Stanley, 69, operator of a rooming house at 1821 Sixth avenue, Moline, was found dead in one of the rooms of the place about 3:40 o'clock yesterday morning by Ray Edlin, a roomer.

Coroner Leslie H. Banning, who made an investigation of the case, said no inquest would be made. He added that Mrs. Stanley had been ailing for some time and that a stroke was the cause of death.

She had been dead for some time when found, Coroner Banning said, and he expressed the belief death occurred some time Saturday afternoon while Mrs. Stanley was engaged in her household duties.

She was seen about 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning by Fred Olin, another roomer, when he paid his rent, police where told. Edlin, returning home early yesterday, found her lying on the floor of his room, where, it was evident, Mrs. Stanley collapsed while making up the bed.

A daughter, Mrs. Frances Bean, told Moline police and Coroner Banning that her mother had been ailing for some time although she planned to make a trip to the downtown business district Saturday afternoon.

The body was taken to Esterdahl mortuary.

Mrs. Stanley, the former Maude Whitaker, was born Nov. 2, 1879, in Burlington, Iowa, and moved to Moline in 1903. She was married to Robert Stanley, Dec. 27, 1904, in Moline. He died in 1940. Mrs. Stanley was a member of First Baptist church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bean of Moline and Mrs. Vera Curlee of Chicago; a grandson, a great-grandchild, and a brother, Leonard Whitaker of Moline.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in Esterdahl chapel, the Rev. Ralph Brink of First Baptist church officiating. Friends may call at the chapel.
