Oscar Newton Blair, 85, a minister, teacher and student of ancient languages, died Saturday at a Portland nursing home. He lived at 9704 SE Knight St.
He was born Aug. 31, 1876 in Kansas, the son of a pioneer minister. He came to Oregon in 1889 and taught school in Linn and Clackamas counties. He was ordained a minister in the Free Methodist Church.
Survivors are a daughter, Bernice Bowerman; and four sons, Harold J., Portland, Dr. Glenn M., professor of educational psychology at University of Illinois; Dr. Edward P., professor of New Testament Interpretation at Garrett Theological Seminary, Evanston, Ill., and Donald S., assistant superintendent of schools, Placer County, Calif.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday from the Jacobson Family Funeral home, with burial in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
