Miss Sally Reid Ahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas I. Ahl of Centerville became the bride of Howard Leland Bliss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bliss, also of Centerville in a pretty ceremony Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the home of her parents.
The ceremony, performed by Dr. D. H. Hammond of the Reid Memorial United Presbyterian church, who read the single ring ceremony took place in the living room before an altar arranged in front of the large fireplace. Two large baskets of gladioli, clematis, and physostegia were used at either side of the fireplace which was banked with palms. White tapers in two seven-branch candelabra, placed directly behind the baskets burned throughout the ceremony. A low basket of the flowers was on the fireplace mantel. Members of the immediate families attended.
A program of bridal music including "Oh Promise Me," (DeKoven); "I Love You Truly," (Bond); "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms" and "Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes" was played by Mrs. R. T. Myrick, pianist, of Whiting, cousin of the bride. Mrs. Myrick also played Wagner's "Bridal Chorus" from "Lohengrin" for the entrance of the bridal party and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" for the recessional.
Miss Clarissa Ahl, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Thomas Ahl, brother of the bride, attended Mr. Bliss as best man.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a power blue sheer wool two-piece suit with tuxedo front of gray kid caracul. She wore a veiled black hat with feather brim in the same shas as her suit and black accessories. Her flowers, a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis, were carried on her black broadcloth bag.
Miss Clarissa Ahl wore a gown of blue sheer wool with matching hat and kona red shoes. Her flowers were a corsage of white gardenias and stephanotis.
Mrs. Ahl, mother of the bride, wore a black silk suit with printed blouse and gardenia corsage. Mrs. Bliss, mother of the bridegroom was in navy blue sheer and her corsage also was gardenias.
A reception followed the wedding. The dining room was appointed in pink and white and the bride's table, lighted by white candles in silver holders, was centered with a large three-tier white wedding cake.
After a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Bliss will reside in Centerville.
Mrs. Bliss attended Earlham college and the Richmond Business college and has been employed in the sales departmet of the Natco. Mr. Bliss, a graduate of Centerville schools, is employed at the Wayne Works.
Out-of-town guests at the wedding included Mrs. R. T. Myrick and Miss Dorothy Myrick of Whiting, Mrs. Mary Roberts and son, Duane, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Ernest Oden of Indianapolis.

BETTENDORF — Sarah "Sally" Bliss, 79, of 524 Brown St., died Saturday at St. Luke's Hospital, Davenport.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today.
Sarah Ahl married Howard Bliss in 1942 in Centerville, Ind.
She attended Earlham College, Richmond, Ind.
She enjoyed fishing, needlepoint and spectator sports.
Memorial may be made to American Lung Association.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Kathleen (Mrs. Edward) Bills, Rock Island; Judith Bliss, New York City; Elizabeth (Thomas) Lilly, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Thomas, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two granddaughters.

Sarah "Sally" Ahl Bliss, Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Richmond, died Saturday, April 9, in Bettendorf.
She was born in Richmond to Florence and Thomas Ahl. The family had lived in Centerville in the Oliver P. Morton House. She has lived in Bettendorf for a number of years. She was a graduate of Richmond High School.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Bliss; four children; two grandchildren.
Service and burial will be in Bettendorf.

Celebration of Life Services for Howard L. Bliss, Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. He died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center-North Campus, Davenport. He retired in 1976 after 33 years as a supervisor with International Harvester. Howard was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Indianapolis, Ind. to Raymond and Cecile Ivan (Oden) Bliss. He married Sarah Ahl, Sept. 4, 1942, in Centerville, Ind. She preceded him April 9, 1994. He was a member of Dale Carnegie and Toastmaster's. Howard enjoyed fishing, playing bridge, and was an active member of Bettendorf Life Fitness Center. He enjoyed planning the annual family fishing trips, playing games with his grandchildren and discussing politics with friends. He served in the Army. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Edward Bills, Rock Island, Elizabeth and Thomas Lilly, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Judith Bliss, New York City; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Diana Bliss, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and six grandchildren, Jennifer, Allison, Caelen, Keegan, Breanna, and Ryan.
