A NARROW ESCAPE

Little Grace Dagnell Falls In Front of 5 O'clock Extra Wednesday Evening

One of the narrowest escapes of a person being ground to pieces was witnessed by a representative of this paper Wednesday evening. Shortly after 6 o'clock as a number of girls were coming from the silk mill, out Penn street on their way home, they started on a run to get over the Pennsy tracks in front of Sunbury division train, 6 o'clock extra.

They all got over safely but the last one, who was Grace Dagnell, a winder at the mill, who resides on South Front street, she had been running for half a square and was exhausted when she fell five feet in front of the fast approaching train. Through her presence of mind she drew her head and legs from the track just as the locomotive passed. The only injuries she received were a few scratches on her face, and her dress skirt was torn from the splinters on the rails.

Conductor A. Yeager, who was sitting on the flagman's side, saw the girl fall and shouted to Engineer George Bright, who quickly turned the reverse leaver and applied the air, stopping the train several car lengths ahead.
