CARKHUFF-MARKLE

An important wedding, beautiful for its simplicity, took palace at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Anderson at Riverside Monday evening at seven o'clock, when Mrs. Anderson's sister, Miss Minnie Alvernie Markle, became the bride of Mr. Walter Emerson Carkhuff of Olathe. About thirty-five relatives and very close friends were numbered in the list of wedding guests and the Rev. W. W. Speer of the Olathe Methodist church, was the officiating clergyman. The happy couple were unattended and stood beneath a large white wedding bell, while the impressive words which made them man and wife were said. A bank of house plants and carnations formed the background. Miss Markle wore a beautiful wedding gown of ivory crepe de chine, elaborately trimmed with silver lace and she carried a bouquet of pink carnations.

The parlors were prettily decorated with white hearts and the dining room, where the elaborate wedding feast was served, was decorated with pink and white hearts and crepe paper, and large bouquets of pink carnations graced the tables, which were lighted by the glow of pink shaded candles. Mrs. Polly McCarty, a sister of the bride and Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. M. S. Gregory aided in serving the menu. THe happy couple were showered with the good wishes of the assembled guests.

Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Carkhuff departed for Denver, where they will spend their honeymoon, and on their return will go to housekeeping immediately on the groom's ranch at Olathe. Mrs. Carkhuff wore for traveling a midnight blue silk dress, with gray coat and hat.

These young people, who are extremely popular in this section, are so well known that they scarcely need an introduction to our readers. The bride is a girl of unusual charm of manner, is accomplished and her winsome disposition makes her the friend of everybody. She graduated from the Montrose county high school several years ago, and for the past two years has been general delivery clerk at the postoffice, resigning her position there the first of the year. She is the second daughter of G. B. Markle of this city, and has resided here since she was a little girl. Mr. Carkhuff, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Carkhuff of Montrose, is a prominent young farmer of progressive ideas and is one of our most substantial and best liked citizens. Both he and his lovely bride are popular in social circles and take a very active interest in church work.

That their future may be one of ideal happiness, with a goodly share of health and prosperity, is the wish of their many friends, the Press joining most heartily with all their other friends in these felicitations.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Carkhuff observed their 36th wedding anniversary Thursday with the help of 16 relatives and friends who came bringing the evening meal to be enjoyed together. The affair turned out to be a double celebration since Wilbur Carkhuff, a brother of Walter, observed a birthday on Thursday, also. Those gathered were neighbors of the Carkhuffs at Olathe, where they made their home immediately following their wedding, and included Dr. and Mrs. R. V. Adler, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Carkhuff, Herman Carkhuff, Mrs. D. A. Casner, Frank Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Warren of Norwood, Mrs. Jessie Dawson of San Fernando, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stevens, Hayes B. Coffman and Mrs. E. C. Chamberlain. The dinner table was centered by a large bouquet of snapdragons and carnations sent earlier in the day by the guests. Mrs. Carkhuff, as Minnie Markle, was employed in the Montrose Post Office prior to her marriage.
