A number of young ladies of the city Friday evening decided to surprise their friend, Miss Clarissa Carkhuff, with a miscellaneous shower in honor of her "supposed" approaching nuptials. Accordingly they perfected their arrangements and proceeded to the residence of the parents of their victim, around the hogback southwest of town.
The surprise was complete. "Miss Carkhuff" was also delighted. And again also she had a little private surprise up her own sleeve. After the customary felicitations on occasions of this character had been disposed of, she informed her guests, and incidentally her parents, that her name was no longer "Miss Carkhuff" but that on September 23 last she was married in Telluride to Mrs. Nels Jacobs of Norwood.
It may be mentioned that the second surprise was as complete as the first. But the guests quickly recovered their usual equanimity and the evening was very delightfully spent. Those present besides the hone guest, included Mrs. Nellie Thompson, Miss Minnie and Miss Blanche Markle, Miss Mayme and Miss Lute Sutherland, Miss Mary Thomas, Miss Leona Lamb, Miss Agnes Leisy, Miss Della Tagg, Miss Edith and Miss Mabel Baily and Miss Nellie Carkhuff.
