CHILDREN HELP TO CELEBRATE 25th WEDDING

Surprise Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fisher with Anniversary Event and Jolly Reunion

North Page (Special)—Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fisher of near Hepburn had their silver wedding anniversary August 1st, but on account of the fine rain, the celebration of the event was held on Sunday evening instead. Their children had planned a very complete surprise.

The Fisher family had lived 25 years on the same farm with the exception of one year which they spent on the Mrs. E. Newsam farm while the buildings were being moved out onto the road.

Their five children were present: Vernon of Villisca; Ruth, now Mrs. James Brownlee, Donald, Eva Luella, and Mary Rosalyn at home. Also Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Houston of Clarinda, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Fisher of Villisca, Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Houston and daughters, Charlene and Doris, James Brownlee, Miss Bertha Lindberg and Miss Wylma Higgins of Villisca.

After refreshments of ice cream, cake and cookies had been served by the children, the evening was spent in music and songs. After presenting them with some silver as a token of remembrance they all departed for the various homes wishing them many more anniversaries.

News writer for nearly 50 years died Saturday

Mrs. Fred L. Fisher, 72, a resident of the North Page vicinity until moving to Villisca about 12 years ago, died at Clarinda Hospital Saturday evening, ending an illness of several years.

Funeral services are to be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Villisca, her pastor, the Rev. Paul Ellis, to be in charge. Burial will be in the cemetery of North Page community.

Mr. and Mrs. Fisher had celebrated their gold wedding anniversary Aug. 1, 1956, at their home in Villisca. Mrs. Fisher was formerly Mabel C. Houston, daughter of Charles and Eva Houston, reared in the vicinity north of Clarinda. The family home was in Valley and Douglas townships during the years she was rearing her family.

She held a record of 48 years, so far as Mr. Fisher can estimate of writing for the Clarinda Herald-Journal. Even during recent months, when she was unable to do the writing herself, she had Mr. Fisher assist with reporting the events among her friends in North Page vicinity.

She became a member of the Presbyterian Church at age of eight, and after marriage worked in the church at Hepburn. She was a life member of the WCTU from her service with the group, and was affiliated with the Willing Works class and the Kensington Club at Villisca.

Mrs. Fisher had been ill for four years, during which time she had several strokes and heart attacks.

With Mr. Fisher are five surviving children, including Vernon E. Fisher of Shenandoah, Mrs. H. James (Ruth) Brownlee and Mrs. Stanley C. (Eva) Moyer of Loveland, Colo., Donald H. Fisher of Villisca and Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Bowman of Read Oak. She was a sister of Roy Houston of near Hepburn.
