Harry W. Hoke

Harry W. Hoke, 84, who retired in 1964 after teaching in York City schools 41 years, died Thursday at 8:45 a.m. at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. He and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Swartz Hoke, made their home at 120 N. Water St., Spring Grove. He was born in Jackson Twp., son of the late George and Amanda Stambaugh Hoke. In addition to teaching, he was also a general insurance agent for 50 years and belonged to the following organizations: Lafayette Lodge 111, F and AM, Baltimore for 50 years; York Forest 30, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, 50 years; Harrisburg Consistory; St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Spring Grove; and Friendship Hose Co., Spring Grove. Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother and two sisters, Samuel H. Hoke, 162 W. Market St., York; Mrs. Elizabeth Slagle, 103 E. Market St., and Mrs. Catherine Gibbs, 222 E. Philadelphia St., York. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Sauter Funeral Home, 175 N. Main St., Spring Gove, with Rev. Joseph W. Seitz, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8:45 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of other memorials contributions may be made to the York County Cancer Society.
