FORMER RESIDENT OF DENMARK DIES AT SPOKANE, WASH.

Special To The Hawk-Eye.

Denmark, Ia., Dec. 28.—Word has been received here of the death of Edward C. Houston at his home in Washington Christmas night. Mr. Houston was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel and Kate Hornby Houston, early settlers of Denmark.

He was born here 73 years ago , graduated from Denmark academy class of 1878. After graduating he went to Washington and also to Alaska during the gold rush in the early days. After a short time he returned to Washington and settled near Spokane on a ranch, where he lived since that time.

He is survived by his wife and three brothers, Charley Houston of Clarinda, Ia., Harry W. Houstona dn Arthur H. Houston, of Denmark, and one sister, Mrs. Millie Deering of Montana and many relatives.

MRS. E. C. HOUSTON

PROSSER, Wash., May 16.—Death came at 4:30 a. m. to Mrs. E. C. Houston, 75, one of the city's oldest and most active pioneers. Born Mayo Evans in Wsiconsin Mrch 1, 1860, she married in the midwest before coming here. Following taking land here, Houstons moved to Seattle, then to Nome, where she followed her husband through sourdough activities, returning here after the Alaska gold rush. Active in civic enterprises almost to death, she was former president of W.C. T. U., consistently active in the Woman's club and P. E. O. Survived by a daughter, Helena Richardson, Oakland, Cal.; sister, Margaret Thomas, Prosser; brother, George Evans of Montana.
