David Ernest Purinton, 70, a pioneer resident of Box Butte county, passed away last night at 10:30 at the hospital, where he was taken last Thursday in critical condition.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. The Rev. D. B. MacDonald of the Christian church will give the sermon. The remains are being cared for by Miller's Mortuary.
Mr. Purinton came to Box Butte county 23 years ago after purchasing a farm eight miles northwest of the city. He had made this place his home since that time and built up a profitable farming enterprise due to this industry and honesty.
He was born at Albany, Wis., on July 30, 1863, and when a young man came to Seward county, Nebraska. On June 14, 1887, he was united in marriage to Clara Bevard at Utica, Neb. To them five children were born, all of whom with the widow survive. They are Earl J. of Lincoln, Ernest W. of Alliance, Mrs. Ida Berg of Torrington, Wyo., David B. of Pampa, Tex., and Herbert H. of Alliance.
Mr. Purinton was active in Farmers Union work and was an officer in that organization. He served one term as a legislator from this district and acquitted himself with credit to himself and his constituents.

Mrs. Clara L. Purinton, 89, died early this morning at the Lohmeyer Nursing Home. Mrs. Purinton came to Alliance with her husband the late David E. Purinton, on February 26, 1911, and lived on a farm four and a half miles north of Alliance until recently when she moved to the rest home. Mr. Purinton died in 1933.
Mrs. Purinton was born in Mosco, Ia., and married Mr. Purinton on June 14, 1887, in Utica, Nebr.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and a charter member of the Rural Woman's Club.
Survivors include three sons, Earl J., of Lincoln, Ernest W., of Alliance, and Herbert W. of Riverton, Wyo.; by one daughter, Mrs. Ida Berg of Casa Grande, Ariz.; by two sister, Mrs. Alice M. Winingham of Utrechville, Ohio and Mrs. Harrier Burgess of Los Angeles, Calif.; by 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and by 1 great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Landa Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.
