Ruby Bodine Hathaway was bron August 19, 1893 at Covington, Ind., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Hathaway. She attended the Cayuga High School and graduated with the class of 1911. She was a bright student and was dearly beloved by her classmates and teachers. Her sweet disposition won her hosts of friends, who deeply regret her seemingly untimely departure. She was united in marriage to Walter Richardson, November 28, 1911, and to them were born four children, Alma Marzetta, age 9; Fores Galen, age 7; Charlotte Lorraine, age 3; and an infant son, dying the day before the death of the mother, who was taken violently ill, Wednesday noon. A trained nurse and five doctors did all that was in their power to do, and worked hard and faithfully, day and night till the end, which occurred Friday morning, March 24, 1922. She had an attack of the influenza in January, which left her in a very weakened condition.
The greater part of her married life was spent on the farm, 3 miles south of Cayuga, and only three weeks ago they moved into town and were just getting settled in their new home, when the Dread Messenger, Death, entered the happy home, and left a vacant chair. Her last words to her husband, when she was taken ill Wednesday noon, were "I am going to sleep my life away," she having realized for some time, that the end was not far away, and being fully prepared to meet her Savior, her only regret was in leaving her family.
She leaves to mourn: husband, 3 children, father and mother, one sister, Miss Ada Hathaway, who has made her home with the deceased for several years, two brothers, Chas. Hathaway of Cayuga nd Homer of Silverwood, Ind. besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. P. W> Eddingfield delivering the funeral discourse. Interment was made at the Thomas cemetery by the side of the husband's mother.
The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. D. Todd, M. Laughlin, John Dale, A. L. Clark, James Morgan and A. E. VanHoutin, and floral bearers were Mrs. Zoe Sagers, Mrs. Cecil Guy, Mrs. A. E. VanHoutin, Mrs. Lamont Downs, Misses Mary Evans and Nice Booe of Newport and Fannie Booe.
