DEATH RECORD

Charles Ernest Shepard

Charles Ernest Shepard, a son of the late C. F. Shepard of this city, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. D. F. Clark, No. 3002 Orchard street, in Lincoln, Thursday morning, April 13, after an illness which greatly impaired his health for the past three years.

On the 24th of February he was taken acutely ill with rheumatism at Livingston, Montana, and his friends were notified that he was not expected to live. His mother and brother left at once for his bedside, and found him somewhat improved, so that in ten days he was able to be removed to Lincoln but was never able to leave his bed after he arrived there, the rheumatism settling in his heart, resulting in a dropsical affection.

Mr. Shepard was born in Waverly, Nebraska, December 20, 1870, and was aged 40 years, 3 months and 24 days at the time of his death. When a boy he was a student of the Ashland schools. He leaves his aged mother, Mrs. C. F. Shepard of this city, and one son, aged 20 years, besides two brothers and two sisters, to mourn his decease. The surviving brothers and sisters are: M. E. Shepard and Mrs. D. F. Clark of Lincoln, P. B. Shepard of Ashland and Mrs. V. O. Clark of Memphis.

Mr. Shepard was a railroad man who had attained a high position, having been at the time he was taken ill, trainmaster for the Northern Pacific road. He was a member of the Order of Railway Conductors.

The funeral will be held from the home of his sister in Lincoln Saturday at 11 o'clock. The services will be conducted by the Rev. J. w. Hilton, a former pastor of teh Church of Christ in this city. The burial will be in the Ashland cemetery, the remains, with the funeral party, arriving here on No. 16 in the afternoon.
