Miss Edith Evelyn Sherwin

Mr. George Francis Beaven

A wedding of mush interest on the Eastern Shore of Maryland will take place this evening in Raleigh, N. C., when Miss Edith Evelyn Sherwin is married to Mr. George Frances Beaven, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L Beaven, of Hillsboro, Caroline county, Md.

The ceremony will be performed by the Rev. James McD. Dick, rector of the Church of The Good Shepherd.

The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. M. E. Sherwin, of the faculty of the North Carolina State College, and Mrs. Sherwin, of Greensboro, N. C. She is a graduate of Meredith College and received her degree of Master of Arts at Duke University.

Mr. Beaven is the grandson of the late Rev. George F. Beaven, who for 52 years was rector of the three Protestant Episcopal Churches in this county. He is a graduate of Washington College and also studied at Duke University.

After a wedding trip to Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Beaven will be at home in Pocomoke City, Md., where Mr. Beaven is head of the science department at the high school.

G.F. Beaven, 60, Researcher Of Shellfish

Solomons, Md., April 9—G. Francis Beaven, associate professor in charge of shellfish research for the University of Maryland here, died last night at Calvert County Hospital, Prince Frederick, following a heart attack.

Mr. Beaven, 60, a former teacher at Hurlock, Md., and at Pocomoke, Md., has been employed at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory since 1940.

His work has involved him in research dealing with oysters, crabs, clams and aquatic vegetables.

Outlined Program

Only last month, he and Dr. Jay D. Andrews outlined a six-point program to help replenish natural oyster beds in the Potomac River.

A past president of the National Shellfisheries Association, Mr. Beaven was appointed in 1962 by Governor Tawes as the Southern Maryland representative on the Maryland Board of Natural Resources.

Born in Hillsboro, Caroline county, he was educated at Washington College, Chestertown, Md., and at Duke University.

Wife, Sons Survive

Mr. Beaven was a member of the Ecological Society of America, the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography, and other scientific organizations.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Sherwin Beaven, and two sons, G. Francis Beaven, Jr., and Melvin S. Beaven.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in Solomons. Burial will be in the Middleham Chapel Cemetery, Lushy, Md.
