Arthur Streeter

George Arthur Streeter, a resident of this city twenty years ago, when he operated a photograph gallery here, a brother of the late Mrs. George C. Moses, died February 14 at Shawnee, Oklahoma. He had visited the Moses family here and his brother Charles at Manhattan within the year, and has many friends among the older residents who will sorrow with the family.

The Shawnee (Oklahoma) newspaper gave this very complete sketch concerning him and his work.

G. A. Streeter, who for more than twenty years has been one of Shawnee's most prominent business men, being one of the leading photographers of the Southwest, passed away early yesterday morning at his home on North Draper street.

Mr. Streeter had been in failing health for the past year, but his illness was not known to be of a serious nature until a few weeks ago, when his physicians pronounced his malady cancer of the liver. At their advice Mr. Streeter went to the Mayos' famous Rochester, Minn., the famous Rochester physician, confirming the local doctors' diagnosis. Mr. Streeter returned from Rochester two weeks ago.

George Arthur Streeter was born in Eden Mills, Vermont, May 20, 1865, his parents moving to Milford, Kansas, when he was but an infant. Following his schooling at Milford, Mr. Streeter completed his education in the State Agricultural College at Manhattan, Kansas after which he began the practice of his profession spending four years in California and then returning to Junction City, Kansas.

In September, 1899, Mr. Streeter was married to Miss Nellie Blair at Solomon, Kansas, the couple coming to Shawnee in the spring of 1902, where they have ever been among the city's most substantial citizens.

Mr. Streeter's life was gently and kindly, his courteous pleasant manner, both in business and in his home, never failing him, even when sorely tried by stress of business or when his nerves were racked with pain. He had the true artists' love of the beautiful in nature, which found expression in the cultivation of flowers, his favorite recreation.

The only immediate surviving relative besides his wife, is an only brother, Charles Streeter of Manhattan, Kansas, who was with him during the last days of his illness.

Mr. Streeter was a consistent member of the First Presbyterian church, a Master Mason and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He was also a Rotarian, and one who daily practiced its beautiful creed of service to his fellowmen.
