Harvey Tobie Funeral Held

SCIO — Dr. Harvey E. Tobie, 75, former mid-Willamette Valley resident, died of an apparent heart attack Saturday at his Portland home.

He was a graduate of Willamette University in 1915 and taught schools in Stayton, Scio, Canby and Smith River. He was the author of the book, "No Man Like Joe: the Life and Times of Joseph L. Meek," and wrote numerous articles for Oregon Historical Society.

Survivors include the widow, Eunice of Portland; son Frank of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters Mrs. Naomi Ridley and Mrs. Clarice Smith of Portland; brother, Paul of Spokane, two sisters Mrs. Adelaide Orange of Brooks and Mrs. Ellen Chisholm of Spokane; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sellwood Methodist Church in Portland.
