The marriage of Miss Claudia T. Fleming, of Farmville to Douglas Hamilton Whipple, of Brownsburg, Va., was solemnized Monday, Dec. 21, eleven-thirty at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Barrye Wall, on First avenue. The Rev. Alpheus Potts of Chester, Va., was the celebrant.
The living rooms of the home were decorated in greens and cut flowers and the ring ceremony was performed before the improvised altar of greens. The bride wore a traveling dress of blue with a shoulder corsage of gardenias. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. H. V. Lancaster, played "I Love You Truly," on the violin and "At Dawning" was played softly during the service. Only members of the immediate families and a few close friends were present.
immediately following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served. Mr. and Mrs. Whipple left for a brief wedding trip and will make their home in Brownsburg where Mr. Whipple is connected in business.
Mrs. Whipple is a daughter of the late Claude C. Fleming and Mrs. Lucy B. Fleming of Farmville; is a graduate of the State Teacher's college and Emory university of Atlanta. She is librarian at Crews High school. Mr. Whipple is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David J. Whipple of Brownsburg.

Mr. Douglas Hamilton Whipple, a resident of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Home in Harrisonburg, passed away on Thursday, September 13th, at the home.
A son of the late David Johnston Whipple and Eleanor Ervine Whipple, he was born on March 7, 1912 in Brownsburg, Va. He started his career, as a farmer in Rockbridge County and in 1942 he became a Farm Home Administrator at which time he and his family moved to Culpeper, Va. Later they returned to Rockbridge County, where he became assistant manager of the Bank of Rockbridge in Fairfield, Virginia. He retired as manager of the Bank of Rockbridge in 1964 at which time he and Mrs. Whipple moved to the Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community. Mr. Whipple was an elder member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Fleming Whipple; one daughter, Virginia Whipple Winfree of Lexington; two grandsons, Peyton Winfree and Carroll (Ben) Robinson; one granddaughter, Ann Hamilton Winfree; and two brothers, D. W. Whipple and Fred Whipple, both of Brownsburg, Virginia.
Graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 O'Clock from the gravesite in the New Providence Church Cemetery in Raphine. The Rev. John Lewis will conduct the services.
His body now rests at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, but the casket will be closed.

HARRISONBURG — Graveside services for Mrs. Claudia Fleming Whipple, a resident of Sunnyside Retirement Community, will be held at eleven o'clock Saturday morning in the New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Raphine, Va. with the Rev. John Lewis officiating.
A daughter of the late Claude Cicero and Lucy Bidgood Fleming, she was born in Farmville, Va. and was educated at Longwood College in Farmville, and Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Whipple was Librarian in the High Schools of Crewe, Brownsburg and Rockbridge County, Va.
In 1984 she and her late husband moved from Fairfield to Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va. Mrs. Whipple was a member of the New Providence Church at Raphine.
On Dec. 21, 1936 she married Douglas Hamilton Whipple, who preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1990.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Whipple Winfree of Lexington, Va.; a granddaughter, Ann Winfree Scott of Richmond, Va. and two grandsons, Peyton Brown Winfree of Richmond, Va. and Carroll Bennett Robinson III of Wilmington, North Carlina.
Memorial contributions may be made to either New Providence Presbyterian Church, Raphine, Va. 24472 or to Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community, 100 Sunnyside Drive, Suite A., Harrisonburg, Va. 22801 in memory of Mrs. Whipple.
Mrs. Whipple died at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
