He married MOLLIE SUE HULL on June 26, 1940 in Goshen, Rockbridge, Virginia.6043 She was born January 7, 1917 in Radford, Virginia,10567 and died November 2, 2011 in Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Virginia.10567 She is buried in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Raphine, Rockbridge, Virginia.456

Miss Hull Weds Mr. Whipple in Goshen Church

At twelve-thirty Wednesday afternoon, Goshen Methodist church was decked with Dorothy Perkins and red ramblers and white hydrangeas to make a colorful setting for the wedding of Miss Mollie Sue Hull to Mr. Fred Rutledge Whipple.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Mann Hull, of Goshen; Mr. Whipple, a son of Mrs. Eleanor Ervin Whipple and the late Mr. David J. Whipple, of Brownsburg.

Mr. Hull gave his daughter in marriage at the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. L. O. Rose, pastor of the bride, assisted by Dr. D. B. Walthall.

Mrs. Herman E. Cauley, gowned in pink chiffon with matching hat, played the wedding music, and Miss Bessie Hull, of Roanoke, sang "I Love You Truly." She was gowned in ivory embroidered organdy with hat to match.

The bride chose for her marriage a gown of white marquisette over white taffeta, a large white hat and an arm bouquet of white rosebuds and white snapdragons completing the picture.

Miss Virginia Hull, sister of the bride and her only attendant, wore a frock pf pink marquisette over taffeta and a pink straw bonnet. She carried an arm bouquet of Dorothy Perkins ramblers with sprays reaching the floor.

Mr. Douglas Whipple, of Brownsburg, acted as best man for his brother. Ushers were Messers. Thomas Bosworth, of Brownsburg, and Charles Mann Hull, of Richmond, brother of the bride.

A wedding breakfast was held at the home of the bride, which was decorated with Dorothy Perkins roses and white hydrangeas.

For travelling, the bride changed to a tailored dress of japonica crepe with white accents, complimented by a white sports hat with japonica band and matching accessories.

Mrs. Whipple, a graduate of Madison college, has been a member of the Brownsburg High School faculty for the past four years. Mr. Whipple, who attended Augusta Military academy and Dunsmore Business college, is in business in Brownsburg, where he and Mrs. Whipple will make their home.

Mollie Sue Whipple

BROWNSBURG—Mollie Sue Whipple, 94, of Brownsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the Sunnyside Retirement Home in Harrisonburg. Born Jan. 7, 1917, in Radford, a daughter of the late Elbert Mann Hull and Pearl Garth Mann Hull.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Fred Rutledge Whipple Sr. Mrs. Whipple was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Night Club and played the organ for over forty years. Mollie Sue was also a member of the Green Garden Club for many years. Mrs. Whipple attended Harrisonburg State College, now known as James Madison University. Mollie Sue also taught at Brownsburg School for 32 years.

Surviving are two children, Fred R. Whipple Jr., and wife, Louise; Sue W. Hecht and husband, Pete both of Brownsburg; four grandchildren, Patrick E. Hecht and partner, Andy Sosa, Michael R. Hecht and wife, Stacey, David R. Whipple and wife, Sara and Robert M. Whipple and wife, Stephanie; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Hecht and Timothy Hecht.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at New Providence Presbyterian Church with the Pastor Keith Cornfield officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Another memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Sunnyside Retirement Home with Chaplin Tom Smith officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunnyside Fellowship Fund, 3935 Sunnyside Drive, Suite A, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
