Powers-Austin Rites Are Announced Here

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Powers of the Council Valley community announce today the marriage of their daughter, Miss Helen Lorene Powers to Mr. Oliver Kenneth Austin, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Austin, 1028 East Fourth street.

The marriage vows were read in Stillwater June 19 by the Reverend Allen S. Davis, pastor of the Presbyterian church.

The bride wore a street length dress of powder blue with white accessories.

Mrs. Austin attended the Cushing high school graduating in the class of 1937. She was member of the glee club and Tigerettes.

Mr. Austin received his degree from the Oklahoma A. and M. college this year and is employed with the Cities Service Oil company in Ponca City where the couple will make their home.

Helen Lorene Austin

Helen Lorene Austin, 91, formerly of Bartlesville, OK, passed away on June 22, 2010 at Wilshire at Lakewood in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Helen was born on November 8, 1918 in Cushing, Oklahoma to the late Ben and Bessy (Harris) Powers. She was united in marriage to Oliver Kenneth "O.K." Austin and to this union, four children were born. She and Kenneth raised their children in Bartlesville. Helen loved being a mother and enjoyed staying home with her children.

After her children were all in school, she worked for many years at Sullivan's Children's Clothing Store in downtown Bartlesville and became a very active volunteer at East Cross United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities, including the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Helen also encouraged her children to do their best and also became a volunteer coach for the Phillips 66 Gymnastic Team. She moved to Missouri in 2004.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, O.K. in 1994; daughter, Helen "Kay" Austin; siblings, Kenneth Powers, Clifford Powers, Alta Dooley, Elsie Thomas, Opal Barton Kelly, Ben Jack Powers and Buddy Powers.

She leaves behind her sons, Bill Austin and wife, Pat of Jenks, OK, Dr. Ron Austin and wife, Sharion of Tishomingo, OK; daughter, Vicki Auld and husband, Matt of Grain Valley, MO; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at East Cross United Methodist Church, 820 S. Madison Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006, at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2010. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to East Cross United Methodist Church, specified to Methodist Youth Fellowship.4717
