MISS O'BRYAN IS FRIDAY BRIDE

Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Shaver, 738 East Main street, announce the marriage of their daughter, Betty Louise O'Bryan, to Buddy Powers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Powers, Council Valley.

The double ring ceremony was performed Friday, March 8, in the home of Rev. Charles Eggers, 309 East 6th street at 9 p. m.

The bride given in marriage by her mother, wore a white gabardine dress. Her accessories were of black and she wore a corsage of red sweetheart roses.

Miss Lyler Holderread, bridesmaid, wore a blue suit with white accessories. Her corsage was of white gardenias.

Mr. Ben Jack Powers served as best man for the couple. Guests at the wedding include: Miss Donna lee Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Lewallen.

The couple will leave for a wedding trip to California in a few days.

Betty L. Powers

Betty Louise (O’Bryan) Powers, age 85, was surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 14, 2013 in Edmond, OK after a short illness. She was born October 22, 1927 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Maude and Wilson (Pat) O’Bryan, and was one of eight children.   

She married Harold C. “Buddy” Powers on March 8, 1946 and moved to San Jose, California to begin a life together then returning to their hometown of Cushing in 1948. From their union they had three children, Sharon Ferrell (husband, Fred of Edmond, OK); Kathy Hickman (husband, Jay of Guthrie, OK) and Harold (Skip) Powers, Jr (wife, Ana formerly of Gillette, WY).  

Life blessed her with seven grandchildren: Angela (partner, Emelie of Denver, CO); Jeana (husband, Larry of Moore, OK); Dustin of Edmond, OK; Micah (husband, Jeremy of Edmond, OK); Joshua (wife, Amy of Stillwater, OK); Jessica (husband, Steve of Edmond, OK) and Aubrey of Knoxville, TN plus fourteen great-grandchildren: Brady, Brookelin, Samantha, Seth, Sky, Willow, Jayce, Holden, River-Kate, Logan, Lakely, Kenleigh, Reese, and Harrison. 

In addition to raising her family, considered by her as her life’s most cherished accomplishment, she was a homemaker and was active in the Cushing Community volunteering in various organizations and was a strong center of the family structure. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Cushing. She remained a very focused, determined person, even until her death, who never allowed her physical limitations to keep her from living a full and meaningful life.

She moved to Edmond in 1996 to be near her children and grandchildren. Her positive outlook, sense of humor and focus to endure will long remain with her survivors and friends. Her lifelong friendship and sisterhood with sister-in-law, Dona Lee Powers of Perry, OK, was one of the most important and valued relationships of her life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, son and 5 siblings; surviving siblings are Gene O’Bryan of Santa Cruz, CA and Donald O’Bryan of Cushing, OK along with many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Reverend Larry Haney officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Zion Cemetery.
