Mr. and Mrs. Ben Powers, of the Council Valley area, announce today the marriage of their daughter, Miss Elsie Powers, to J. G. Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Thomas, of the Norfolk community.
The marriage vows were exchanged Friday evening, October 3, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Leo Bowers with Rev. Bowers performing the service.
The bride wore a wine velvet street frock with accessories in black for the wedding service.
Miss Alta Powers, sister of the bride, acted as maid of honor and Carl Dooley served as best man.
Other guests were Mrs. J. G. Thomas, mother of the bridegroom, Miss Joan Thomas, Mrs. Sarah Kinnaird, and Mrs. Leo Bowers.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Thomas attended the Norfolk high school. THey will reside with Mr. Thomas parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Thomas, and Mr. Thomas will be associated in business with his father.

J.G. "Jake" Thomas, a longtime Yale resident most recently of Cushing, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, in the Cimarron Pointe Nursing Home in Mannford at the age of 86 years. Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, in the Church of God, Yale, with Brother Mich Dershem officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing. The son of the late Jesse Gardner Thomas and Janie (Decker) Thomas, J.G. was born on July 14, 1923, in Quay. He was reared and educated in the Yale area, attending school at Norfolk School. J.G. was united in marriage to Elsie Powers on Oct. 3, 1941, in Norfolk and to this union five children, Bessie Jane, Marquita, Junior, Harold and Thomas, were born. J.G. was a member of the Grace Assembly Church in Yale and while living in Cushing he had attended Park Place Baptist Church. J.G. had worked at Deep Rock Refinery near Cushing for several years but had been a farmer for most of his life. He also mowed yards until his early 80s, and in his spare time he enjoyed making yard ornaments. Survivors include one daughter, Marquita Adair and her husband Gerald; three sons, Junior Thomas and his wife Jeannie, Harold Thomas and his companion Laura, and Tom Thomas and his wife Carlotta; one brother, Harold Thomas; one sister, Joan Hudgins; 10 grandchildren, Debbie, Greg, Kara, Sean, Tonui, Justin, Nikki, Jayson, Tammy and Jessica; and 20 great grandchildren. J.G. is also survived by his companion, Maxine Barton, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, J.G. was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; one daughter, Bessie Jane Hart; four grandchildren, Russell Reimer, Heath Thomas, Gordon Thomas, and Amber Dawn Thomas; daughter-in-law Linda Thomas; one half sister; and one half brother.
