Mrs. R. H. Dyer, Sheridan Music Teacher, Is Dead

SHERIDAN—Mrs. Frances McClure Dyer, 72, longtime Sheridan music teacher and wife of Dr. R. H. Dyer, died late Friday night in the Sheridan hospital after an illness.

The body is in the Marsh Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 o'clock in Bethel Methodist Church, with burial in the Sheridan Cemetery.

Mrs. Dyer was born July 11, 1886, in Kansas City, Mo. She earned an A.B. degree in music at Central College, Missouri. In 1910, she and Dr. Dyer were married in Houstonia, Mo. They came to Sheridan in 1911 and had made their home here continuously.

Mrs. Dyer was active in church work and was organist at the Methodist Church for many years. She also taught piano. For about 20 years, she was the Sheridan correspondent for The Montana Standard.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a past member of the Sheridan Woman's Club.

Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Pence, and two grandsons, Roger and Bert Pence of Spokane, and two sisters, Mrs. Flora Benning of Houstonia and Mrs. Alvin Barton of Columbia, Mo.

Dr. R. H. Dyer, Former Sheridan Mayor and a Founder of Butte's Murray Clinic, Is Dead

SHERIDAN—Dr. R. H. Dyer, a former three-term mayor of this community and one of the founders of Butte's Murray Clinic, is dead. He was 78.

The doctor died at his home here Tuesday after a short illness had forced him to cease practicing a little over two weeks ago. He had been a physician here since 1911.

Graduating from the University of Missouri in 1904, he went on to receive his degree in medicine from St. Louis University in 1907. Following that he studied under a post-graduate course at Harvard Medical School.

In 1910, he married the former Frances McClure in Missouri. in 1911, he moved to Sheridan and began his practice here.

The doctor was mayor of Sheridan for three terms, the local Northern Pacific surgeon and public health officer for 40 years, school physician for several years, a charter member of the Kiwanis in Sheridan, past master of the Sheridan Lodge of AF&AM and one of the principal scoutmasters of this community.

He was one of the original group which established the Murray Clinic in Butte, but the doctor elected to practice in Sheridan. He was instrumental in obtaining the funds for the present highway between Cactus Junction and ennis. He was made a member in 1957 of the 50-Year Club of the Montana Medical Assn. He and his wife were active members of the Bethel Methodist Church.

Outstanding Citizen

His wife died in November, 1958.

Earlier this year, he had been presented the Kiwanis Outstanding Citizenship Award of the year.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eleanore Pence of Spokane; two grandsons, Roger and Albert Pence of Spokane; two brothers, S. L. Dyer of Malta Bend, Mo. and E. P. Dyer of Fairfax, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Laurence Winslow, Mrs. Floyd Gaulden and Mrs. Warren Tanner, all of Marshall, Mo.; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

The body is in the Marsh Funeral Home in Sheridan.
