Saturday, December 6, was the forty-eighth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Winslow of the county and in celebration relatives assembled at the home in the evening to observe the occasion with them. The guests took delicious dishes of food for a buffet supper. There were thirty-three present.
Laurence H. Winslow and Miss Gertrude Dyer were united in marriage in 1899 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Dyer, near Shackleford. They went to housekeeping in the same neighborhood on the farm where the anniversary was celebrated Saturday.
At the conclusion of the meal, the two youngest members of the family, Susan Ehrnman and Tommy Dyer, presented a package to Mr. and Mrs. Winslow which contained a gift from the entire family, a handsome electric blanket.
Much conversation, many recollections of that happy day forty-eight years ago, music by the talented members of the group including a number of familiar songs, and much laughter made an evening all too short but the guests are looking forward to another anniversary, the fiftieth, two years hence.
In this home established so many years ago, two children have been reared: a son, Beverly, who with his wife and daughter, Virginia Bell, live nearby, and a daughter, Mildred, now Mrs. Paul Marsh of near Sweet Springs, who with her daughter, Mrs. Warner Steinkuehler and Mr Steinkuehler were present Saturday evening.
In this home, too, hospitality has ever been generously dispensed to a large circle of friends; here many pleasant family gatherings have been held, many happy social affairs have occurred and it is a favorite meeting place for community and church activities.
Outstanding in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Winslow has been their attendance at and support of Saline Presbyterian church, where they have long worshipped, and their daily observance of the principles of their faith.
The elder ones of a large family connection, they have been counselors and friends to the younger members and now that they have come to the serenity of the afternoon of life they find themselves rich in lasting friendships and in the affectionate regard and devotion of their relatives.
Those present at the home Saturday other than the honored host and hostess were: Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Tanner and son Warren, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Tanner, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ehrnman, and daughter, Susan, Mr. and Mrs. James Kiser, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Kiser, Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Gauldin, Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Dyer and son, Tommy, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. Beverly Winslow and daughter, Virginia Bell, Mrs. Paul Marsh, Mr. and Mrs. Warner Steinkuehler, Mr. O. B. Marr, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Dyer and Mrs. J. H. Dyer.
